    Clear and Concise

Posted by steve on 4th Nov 2015

I have wanted to learn to play the piano for a very long time. I decided at 50 that the time was now. I don't have a set schedule in my life so being able to go at my own pace on any day or time was necessary. Online lessons seem to fit that requirement. I reviewed many different YouTube versions. Many have good individual lessons but fail on others. All of Alison's videos and books are clear and easy to follow. The lessons are divided into enough information but not too much at once. The rest is up to me. Thanks for the great lessons. I'm only on lesson 8 of book one but feel very confident that my progress will move in a positive direction quickly. Steve Ontario, Canada

    Best absolute beginner book

Posted by Tarryn on 11th Oct 2015

I am an absolute beginner with it comes to both playing the piano and reading music. I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano and thanks to these books, i can finally turn my life long dream into reality. This book explains everything is simple terms. I would recommend using the book in conjunction with the youtube videos as a visual reinforcement. Great book! I will definitely be buying book number 2 as soon as i have worked through book 1. Thank you Alison.

Posted by Ronica on 9th Oct 2015

I always wanted to learn how to play piano since I was a child. I am now retired and I was looking for something that made sense in learning how to play. I really think this will help me to learn. Allison Sparrow made it easy for anyone to understand step by step. Thank you Allison

Needs QR codes for the exercises' links

Posted by Yahya on 5th Oct 2015

This is a great book. However, after printing the book the same way Alison shows it in her video, I noticed it is not easy to watch the links that are included in each exercise since clicking the link is obviously not possible on the printed copy and that will require me to open the soft copy of the book on my laptop or my phone and navigate to the right page and click it. What I suggest here is adding QR Codes next to each link included in the exercise. This way, it would be easy and super-fast for every smartphone holder to scan the code and go to the link straightforward without moving from the piano bench. Example: https://goo.gl/qx7kgh

    Get down to correct fingering

Posted by Shaun Buss on 18th Sep 2015

Alison Sparrow's first piano tutor book will quickly get you started playing little ditties to reinforce correct playing. Within a week i was halfway through though, and it has me thinking I'd rather be making one purchase instead of liking to buy another book in a couple of weeks. There is no guidance on how long each lesson should take, nor warm up exercises and correct posture - i expect this will be important as you progress through the series. I do like how Alison slowly introduces musical concepts but doesn't get you booked down with reading music for example. This is a good companion book to the YouTube videos, however if you're printing the book rather than viewing sheet music on a tablet, you may need to write in the lesson numbers and mm:ss time for each piece to get back on track quickly.

I am finding this book easy to follow. It is clearly written and the diagrams are easy to follow. It is in short sections so it is easy to follow and work with on a daily basis.
