Composing is the way of making, writing and inventing new music from scratch, based on an idea or melody you have have conceived. There is a little more than just writing down in note form a melody from scratch, as a basic understanding of musical knowledge will help you to compose music that sounds good to the ear. This book will give you those basics to get you started in composing your first piece of music, right from the very beginning!

- Lesson 1: Preparation
- Lesson 2: Laying The Foundations for piano & violin
- Lesson 3: Writing It All Down
- Lesson 4: Instrument Limitations: piano & violin
- Lesson 5: Composing A Structured Melody

Probably the best to date
This book makes a task that is essentially difficult, look really easy. I tend to over complicate things, and this book dissected the whole concept of composing into little comprehensible chunks. I highly recommend this for ever beginner in composing.

Composing - The beginners Guide
Dear Ms. Alison, Thank zou verz much for sharing your knowledge with us. What I appreciate above all is that simple and structured approach. That makes it easy to jump in quickly and enables me to start experimenting with my ideas in a structured way. Thank you very much and God bless you abundantely! Johanna

Good foundation for brand new composers
I wasn't sure what exactly to expect from this book; I mainly bought it because I liked the Simply series. I ended up learning some new things though and I would recommend it to anyone who's interested in writing some simple songs or melodies but isn't sure where to start. You need to be able to read music at least on a basic level to grasp the theory; but it's pretty easy once you get into it. I would definitely be interested in more advanced books in this series.
